Where Bali epically failed, Thailand has delivered! The
beach scene is AWESOME. Whatever kind of traveler you are, there is a beach for
you in Thailand: romantic, party central, relaxed, adventure-filled, white
sanded, rocky, coral, you name it! We only took on two beaches.
Railay
This is an isthmus of Thailand available only by speedboat.
Speedboat meaning they take a car engine and strap it to a fishing boat and
weld on a 15 foot pole and propeller.
There are multiple beaches on this tiny isthmus, all of
which are packed with people. And European sunbathers. And Russian fat-man
speedos. You have been warned! The scenery is absolutely unreal. Limestone
cliffs loom overhead, and you can hike through caves between beaches!
This area is quite expensive comparatively, but it was
totally worth the extra $4 a night J
Austin and I mainly splash around in the water like
7-year-olds. Everyone thinks we are very silly, but we think they are silly because
their bum cheeks are hanging out. Austin felt like a fool in baggy swim trunks.
The mankini is SO in. Paritcularly mankinis with flag designs. God bless
America!
Ko Lanta
Lanta is a large island two ferries away from the mainland.
The island is quite large, maybe 20?30? km long, but only has one main drag.
The beaches are long and beautiful and the pace is chillllll. Since the beaches
are so large, it is easy to feel that you are getting an exclusive experience.
The food and lodging is cheaper, and we liked this island quite a bit more than
Railay’s scene.
We met a UK couple that we became BFFs with—Craig and
Shelley! They didn’t understand why on earth we were married when we were so
young; good thing we didn’t share our plans to start a family soon. They wouldn’t
have been able to handle it!
We rented a scooter and promptly got lost, per usual, but we
found a rockin beach and rolled around in the sand for hours. Our scooter
tanlines are even better than our swimsuit lines!
THE THAI FOOD IS SO DELICIOUS. SOOOOOO GOOD!!
